Information, History, and Restoration details for these classic rides!

Introduction

This article presents a brief overview of the first-generation Barracuda, which was manufactured by the Plymouth division of the Chrysler Corporation from 1964 to 1974. Throughout the article, I use images of Barracudas, which to the best of my knowledge are not copyrighted. If any of these images are used in violation of a copyright, kindly let me know and I will remove them immediately.

In mid-1964, Plymouth introduced the "Valiant Barracuda," which grew into the powerful Barracuda muscle car that most power lovers now recognize. But the first generation (1964-1966) Barracuda never got the attention that Plymouth felt it deserved, partly due to the popularity of Ford's Mustang, and partly due to the fact that it was, well, weird.

However, while production was never high, the car was unique, and in many ways superior to the average cars of the day. The first generation Barracuda deserves the closer look it never got.
